Today I have an amazing beauty find for you all!
Let me introduce you to the Essence Liquid Liner (waterproof formula). This is one liquid liner you will definitely want to add to your arsenal!
I have heard a few beauty vloggers refer to this liner as a dupe for Stila’s stay all day liquid liner but without the heavy price tag ($29 CAD).
What I love: Pretty much everything! I have tried many many liquid eyeliners over the last few years and this little baby is definitely up in my top three (just behind Kat Von D’s Tattoo liner). The PRICE! you really can’t go wrong with how affordable this liner is. The quality is amazing, the precision of the felt lip applicator is great and it goes on line a dream.
What I don’t love: I can’t even blame this on the product.. but I have hooded eyes, more so on my right lid than the left and sometimes I notice a bit of transfer later in the day. This really only happens when I’ve been sweating so Im pretty sure it is from the sweat breaking down the liner. Lately I have been doing smaller wings to see if that helps and so far so good.
The price: Are you ready for this??… ONLY $3.49 at Shoppers Drug Mart! I told you it was a steal!
If you’re reading my blog it is because you are probably a beauty/fashion lover like myself. And being a lover of all things pretty you know how expensive it can be. Whenever I am in a dollar store I always take a trip down the health/beauty aisle to see what I might find. Sometimes it is full of great stuff and other times it is just a sad place to be.
Here are a couple of my favourite dollar store finds.
I have seen something similar to this (although a different style) for over $10. So when I found these little babies at only $2 each I had to grab a few.
I use a TON of disposable items in my freelance career and at home. Cotton balls, cotton pads, q-tips and latex free makeup sponges can all be found in the beauty aisle of your local dollar store. Considering how many I go through this is an amazing find!
Nail Polish and other nail things.
I don’t know how many times I have come across OPI nail polish in my local dollar store. It will only run you $3 versus the drug store price that is pretty much double. Only downfall is limited colour selections available. On top of cheap nail polish you may also find these nail wraps. They are available in limited designs (I just happened to find this cool tattoo one) and only cost $2… so not a lot of out of pocket expense if they don’t work. A few other items that you will find are nail clippers, files ect. It dosn’t need to cost you and arm and a leg to keep your nails looking good! (But I am ALL for a trip to the nail salon.. just saying!)
What do they not have at the dollar store? Brushes, combs, clips and more. Granted they are not great quality but if you are in a pinch it is definitely a great option. I mean a comb is a comb right?
The dollar store is really hit or miss when it comes to certain types of products but sometimes you can really strike gold.
Have you ever found anything amazing in your dollar stores beauty aisle? If so what was it?
It’s that time again.
This months Ipsy bag review (my computer changed it to tipsy bag lol)
The theme this month is “Beauty Blast” and features a galactic themed make up bag. Inside were 5 products, I will probably only use 3 of them (maybe).
Beaute Basics navy gel eyeliner with brush. I have never used a navy liner on myself before and am really wishing that they sent me a black one. It came with an eyeliner brush which looks like every other liner brush out there.
Mai Coture “Makeup Paper” travel blush in SICILY. My favourite thing about this product is it says ” HELLO GORGEOUS” on the front. You are suppose to tap or rub the paper onto your cheeks to disperse the blush. The color is nice and all but I prefer the old fashioned way of applying my blush. You get 10 little sheets and a 50% off coupon on the back of the package.
CoolWay strong hold hair spray. That about say it.. it is a “Strong hold” hairspray, nothing overly fantastic about it. You get a 1/2 oz spray bottle.
Smashbox Full Exposure mascara. This is my favourite thing about this months bag. One of my favourite mascaras and I just so happen to run out of it recently. You get a small trial size mascara (.14 fl oz) in the bag but it will last for awhile.
Color Pop eyeshadow in STEREO. When I first saw this in the bag I was pretty excited. I have heard good things about this line. I am not so sure of the color though, which is like a purplish brown with a lot of purple glitter in it. You get a 2.1g pan in this months bag.
I am pretty sure this is going to by my last month with this subscription.. I just haven’t seen the value in it for a few months now. It is pretty disappointing because it is kinda nice to get a bag of goodies each month, but when most of it I won’t use.. it is just a waste.
Hello lovelies this awesome promotion just hit my e-mail and I really had to share it with you!

Tips to keep your products fresh.
Keep lids on when not in use.
Tighten that lid. Air is the enemy for creamy/gel products.
Keep lipsticks out of the heat!
Do not submerge your brushes in water. This is a surefire way to ruin them. Also do not try on towels, they can breed mildew… ew! Hang them to dry. (For more info on brushes check out this post).
If the container is broken or the product is broken (example..powders,eyeshadows,blushes) throw it out!

When doing your makeup it is important to have the right tools for the job. This doesn’t mean you need to go and spend $70 on one brush (that’s insane!). Do a little research and you are sure to find the perfect brushes for your makeup arsenal. Below is just a little bit of information on the types of brushes and what they are used for.
Natural fibre brushes- Made up of well.. natural fibres. I’m talking real animal hair. The bristles move freely which makes them an ideal choice for blending products like eyeshadows, powders and blushes. I would not recommend you use this style of brush with liquid or cream because the product will get trapped in the fibres. This will not only waste your product but be difficult to clean. My favourite natural brushes are the “Luna Badger” series from Crown Brush.
Synthetic fibre brushes- These brushes are constructed with man-made fibres such as nylon and other synthetic fibres. These bristles do not have cuticles so they are best for liquids and creams. Sigma brushes are some of my current favorites.
I decided to add a little image to show you the different kinds of brushes and what they are used for. Always remember though that just because the brush is labelled for one thing it doesn’t mean you can’t use it for another function. Play around with your brushes and find out what works for you.
If you have any specific brush questions feel free to leave a comment below and I will be sure to answer 🙂
With the abundance of cosmetics products on the shelves today it can seem a little daunting trying to find the perfect product. Trust me.. I know! How many times have you wandered the aisles and wondered “what the heck do I buy?”. Well fear not my faithful makeup lovers. Below you will find just a little information about the different types of eyeliners and what my favourites are.
Pencil- This was probably your first introduction to the world of eyeliner and is a great start to anyone’s makeup kit. It is so easy to apply and super versatile. I use my pencil liners primarily for tight lining my upper lid and lining along the water line. These liners are a little hit and miss for ease of use. Some can be incredibly hard and therefore difficult to apply. My advice is test the liner on your hand before you purchase. If it glides on easily then you are good to go, if you really have to apply pressure to get it to move.. leave it behind. Your eyelids are a very sensitive part of your body.. do you really want to be jamming them with a stiff eyeliner pencil? There is such an array of colours in pencil liners that you will have no problem creating your perfect look.
Some of my faves: Urban Decay’s glide on eye pencil and Maybelline Line Express.
Gel/Cream- This little babies are my favourite by far! I love the consistency and the ease of application. My favourite thing about them is that you have complete control over how much product you use. They come in a little pot and most drug store brands supply you with a teeny tiny brush for application. I suggest you spend a couple of bucks and pick up an actual eye liner brush to make your life easier.
Some of my faves: MAC “Blacktrack” or Inglot AMC Eyeliner Gel.
Liquid- This type of liner is mainly popular for creating that dramatic cat eye look that we have been seeing so much of. Liquid liners are just that.. a liquid. They come in either a pen type packaging with a felt tipped applicator or in a little bottle with a fine brush applicator. These can be a little tricky to use so make sure you practice and try to be patient, you will get better with it over time. With so many liquid liners on the market my advice is to look for one that isn’t overly runny. Watery liner can = big problems. Imagine doing the perfect cat eye and then your liner starts to run and in a flash, your perfect cat eye is not so perfect.
Some of my faves: Kat Von D “Tattoo Liner” and Eve Pearl Smudgeproof liquid liner in “Black Pearl”.
I hope this post gave you a little bit of insight on the different varieties of eyeliners that you can choose from. Applying liner can be pretty difficult for some. Don’t fret, just keep on practicing.. and if you don’t get it.. well you could always become an internet meme.
For the last few days we have been in a “heatwave” where I live and although the heat an humidity can be a pain in the arse, nothing is worse than sitting in your car and wondering why you even bothered to do your makeup in the first place. Here are my top 5 tips for making sure your makeup will stay put for longer than 5 minutes!
5. Nobody likes the dreaded “raccoon” eye.. it creeps up on you and just does NOT look cute. When you are really looking for dark glamorous lashes go ahead and reach for your favourite waterproof mascara but my advice to you is to try and limit how much you use it. Waterproof mascara is not the best for every day use so if you can.. grab a clear mascara to add a little volume to your lashes instead.
4. Skip the full coverage! If you don’t need it, don’t use it. A tinted moisturizer or BB cream is a great alternative to your regular foundation routine in the summer months. Let your pores breathe a little.. and you won’t have to worry about it running down your face just from sweating.
3. Choose a creamy shadow. So you have spent forever perfecting that “smokey eye” look and an hour in the hot sun has your shadow clumpy and creasing? Switch out your powder shadows for a cream version. I actually love 24 hour color tattoo by maybelline. The formula is actually amazing and it lasts!
2. Set it and forget it! If you notice that your makeup is sweating off quickly I would suggest giving a setting spray a shot. I almost always use one when I am going out. It gives me a little peace of mind knowing I took that one extra step to make my look last. Make Up Forever “Mist n Fix” is my current go to but Urban Decay also makes a couple great ones.
1. PRIMER.. say it with me now.. P R I M E R. This is probably the most un thought of step to the every day makeup lover. It really helps to keep your makeup in it’s place. You just need a small amount applied after your moisturizer and then finish the rest of your regular makeup routine. There are so many different types of primers on the market so do your research before you go out and spend a ridiculous amount of money on one that won’t suit your skin type.
While the tips above may work for some they may not work for you. Play around with your makeup and try different products. The makeup industry is HUGE, you will find products and techniques that will work for you.
Makeup brushes can be a huge investment so it is really important that you care for them properly.
Every time your brushes come into contact with your face they are picking up dirt and bacteria. I know it sounds gross right? but it is reality. By cleaning your brushes regularly you are cutting down the risk of spreading those nasty little germs and bacteria that can cause acne and other skin issues.
First get yourself a good brush cleaning spray. There are SO many different brands in all different price ranges. The one I use most often is actually by QUO and is found at Shoppers Drugmart. It costs about $12 a bottle and lasts quite awhile. This will do a quick clean of your brushes in-between your deep cleans (more about that in a minute). Just spray on your brushes once you are done and wipe on a paper towel and allow to dry. You don’t want to completely saturate the brush because that can lead to moisture getting into the ferrule of your brush and over time will ruin them.
* Ferrule –
- The metal band that binds the bristles or hair of a brush to its handle.
Once a week at minimum you should be doing a deep cleaning of your personal brushes. There are many shampoos on the market specifically for this but there are also a lot of DIY recipes that you could try also.
To deep clean your brushes.
- Take your desired brush shampoo and place some on a dish or in a shallow container.
- Swirl the bristles in the shampoo. You will see some makeup start to seep off your brush.
- On the back of your hand, rub the brush back and forth to release the makeup.
- Run the brush under warm (not hot!) water and work the bristles around with your finger until clean.
- Pat dry on paper towel.
- Hang to dry!. Letting your brushes lay flat or stand upright to dry is a big NO NO. This will ruin your brushes over time and we definitely don’t want that. Check out the picture below to see how I hang dry my brushes.
I use an old clothes hanger, some clothes pins and little elastics. Easy as pie and basically free (like $2)
